* ¡KThat the Word become flesh means that the Triune God became a man of flesh in the likeness of a sinful man. By so doing God entered into sinful man and became one with sinful man. However, He had only the likeness of a sinful man and not the sin of a sinful man. Hence, He was a sinless God-man, the completed God and perfect man, having two natures, the divine nature and human nature. Although His two natures were mingled to produce a God-man, the individual characteristics of the two natures remained distinct; the two natures did not intermix to form a third nature. Rather, the divine nature existed in the human nature and was expressed through the human nature, full of grace, which is God enjoyed by man, and reality, which is God obtained by man. In this way the invisible God was expressed so that men can obtain and enjoy Him as their life for the fulfillment of His New Testament economy.
RECOVERY VERSION, John 1:14; footnote2
¡@¡@
* The first crucial item of God¡¦s New Testament economy is the incarnation of the Word. Strictly speaking, the incarnation is the incarnation of the Word, John 1:14 says that the Word became flesh. It does not say that Christ became flesh or that God became flesh. The Bible tells us that the Word, who was God (John 1:1), became flesh. The Word is God¡¦s definition, and since it is God¡¦s definition it is God¡¦s embodiment. God is abstract and invisible and invisible since God is Spirit (John 4:24). Our thought is abstract and invisible, but when we put our thought into words these words become the definition of our thought, the very embodiment of our thought. The Word is the definition, the expression, and the embodiment of our thought. If I spoke to you for one hour, you would know what my thought was because my thought is embodied in my word.
The Word as God¡¦s definition, God¡¦s expression, and God¡¦s embodiment, became flesh. The Word, which was God¡¦s definition and God¡¦s embodiment, needed to be embodied further in a Person, and this Person was God the Son. When the Word became flesh, the very embodiment of God became a Person by the name of Jesus Christ. This Person is the embodiment of the Word, which Word was the embodiment of God. In this way we may say that God has been embodied twice. God was embodied in the Word before His incarnation (John 1:1), and the Word was embodied in a living Person who was the Man, Jesus Christ (Col. 2:9).
¡m God¡¦s New Testament Economy¡n ch. 2

* we have never touched in a thorough and adequate way the definition of the divine nature. This term ¡§the divine nature¡¨ is only mentioned once in the entire Bible¡Ðin 2 Peter 1:4. This verse mentions the divine nature in a very particular way in that it says that we have become partakers of the divine nature. A partaker is different from a receiver. We have received the divine nature, but there is a question as to whether or not we are partaking of the divine nature. This is why Peter in his second Epistle told us how to partake of the divine nature in the first chapter. ¡KWhen many Christians study the Bible, their first concern is for their welfare or for what blessing or profit they can get from the Bible. Their second concern is how to worship God, how to fear Him, how to please Him, and how to do things to glorify Him. Not many Christians even think concerning how to fellowship with God. They mostly would be concerned with how to have a time with God. The third concern for many Bible readers is how to improve or better themselves. We all have the realization that we are not that good. Therefore, to many of us the Bible is a divine, heavenly book telling us how to improve ourselves. Finally, many Bible readers hope that the Bible could be an instruction book telling them what to do. Not many have really seen something concerning God¡¦s interest, really realizing that God intends to work Himself into us to be our life and to our nature.
¡KWe all need to see what characteristics of God are shown in creation. The universe as a whole is not dark but very bright. Because it is bright it is pleasure. ¡K Brightness is one of God¡¦s characteristics. The entire universe is also full of beauty. This indicates that beauty is also one of the divine characteristics. In addition to this, the universe is in a good order. Everything in the universe is orderly. Orderliness is another characteristic of God. ¡K Also, in His creation we see the characteristic of love. ¡§He makes His sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the just and the unjust¡¨¡]Matt. 5:45¡^. ¡K In God¡¦s creation, man was made only in the image of God, without the divine nature¡]Gen.1:26a, 27¡^. ¡K Every human being has a natural love and a natural tendency to seek after light; every human being is seeking to be something higher, something uncommon, which is holiness; and every human being seeks to be right and to do the right things with others. This proves that man was made in such a way. ¡K God is a divine Being, a Person, and the nature of His Person is Spirit. This Person also has an essence and the nature of His essence is love. God is a constitution of love. Also, light is the nature of God¡¦s expression, so Spirit, love, and light are the constituents of the divine nature. To partake of the divine nature is to partake of the divine Spirit, divine love, and divine light. If we would spend an adequate amount of time in the morning with the Lord, we would be full of light inwardly and we would not do things nonsensically or say things foolishly. Whatever we do and whatever we say would be full of light. This is the issue of our enjoying of the divine nature. This is because one constituent in the divine nature is light. If we would all spend time to fellowship with the Lord, we would have the sensation that we are enjoying the Lord as the Spirit and we would become a person of love. Love would saturate us. Furthermore, whatever we would say would be light, and whatever we would do would be transparent as crystal. This is an evidence or proof that we are partaking of the divine nature.
The Bible also tells us that God is life. Love and light are related to God as life¡]John 1:4¡^, and life is of the Spirit¡]Romans 8:2¡^. God is life to us mainly in love and light. If you are not saturated with love, you are not living the life of God. If you are not so transparently bright, you are not enjoying God as life. When you enjoying God as life, you are full of love and full of light. ¡KIn John¡¦s Epistle we come to the Father to participate in His love and light in the fellowship of the Father¡¦s life. This is further and deeper in the experience of the divine life. Love and light are God the Father Himself for our deeper and finer enjoyment in the fellowship of the divine life with the Father in the Son ¡]1 John 1:3-7¡^ by our abiding in Him ¡]1 John 2:5, 27-28; 3:6,24¡^.
